VOLUNTEER WITH US
Volunteer Advocates help answer the 24-hour hotline and provide hospital accompaniment. Interested applicants must be at least 18, fill out an application, attend an interview and pass a criminal background check. Once approved, applicants must attend a 40-hour certified training program. Volunteer Advocates will also be qualified to provide law enforcement and court accompaniment as well.
Volunteers help so much with fundraisers and other special events. Keep updated by checking the website for upcoming events and fundraisers and let us know if you have any special talents. Volunteers can also represent Open Arms at health fairs and various related events by distributing materials and answering questions about our services. Orientation is required. Participation as a Special Event Volunteer is on an as-needed basis.
OPEN ARMS CARE COMMITTEE
Care Committee Volunteers are responsible for providing breakfast, lunch or snacks (depending upon time of day) for meetings with local agencies that work with Open Arms, meetings (such as S.A.R.T.), and quarterly volunteer meetings. Orientation is required. Care Committee Volunteers must be available during the week, usually between the hours of 8 am to 5 pm, however some after hours shifts may be available.
EDUCATION + PREVENTION
Once familiar with the center and its services, volunteers can observe at least one program and then help facilitate educational programs.
INDIVIDUAL + GROUP COUNSELING
ASU graduate students who need practicum hours may be considered as individual counseling and group counseling session leaders.
Sometimes we need help with general office duties such as filing, copying, answering telephones, etc. Orientation and a short training is required.
